The Process Once an Application is Received

If you think you want to apply, please send a brief introduction about yourself, the work that you are hoping to do and the scale of funding needed, before making a full application – especially if you are in any doubt that you do not fit the above criteria.

Full written applications are assessed by the Director. Assessment may include further correspondence by email or phone, so please make sure that we have your contact details.

Short-listed applications will then be presented to trustees at one of their regular quarterly meetings when Trustees make their decisions about which projects to fund. Factors which help trustees decide between short-listed applications are:

  • Trustees prefer work thyat meets the needs of more vulnerable or marginalised groups in the community.

  • Applications where our funding will make the difference to the work going ahead and not where it contributes to a much larger funding need.

  • The feasibility of the proposed work.

  • The track record of the people/organisation in implementing new initiatives.

  • Justification of the need as expressed in the application.

  • Genuinely innovative responses to address needs that are not already being met.

  • When a grant/loan is offered each individual or organisation funded is asked to sign a simple contract letter to agree to:-

    • Spend the funds only as applied for and agreed.
    • Tell us, in advance, if there are any changes to the work as described in the application – who it is for, how it is delivered, what it costs, who else is funding etc.
    • Confirm that the organisations finances have never been misrepresented to us.
    • Help us share the positive and less positive stories and outcomes of our grants by telling us after 1 year what happened and giving us some pictures/materials produced from the project. We use these on our website to inform other applicants about the work of CIT and to help them determine whether or not they should apply.
