Characteristics of successful ventures

Basic Needs: training village health teams to understand mental illness
Basic Needs: training village health teams to understand mental illness

We have reviewed our funding and work relationships with organisations during the past years.  Not all of the organisations we have worked with have been successful, for a range of reasons, and we have shared in this learning process.

However, some key characteristics which we believe have offered or delivered success are detailed below.  If you are thinking of applying to ACT then please do check these and consider them in regard to your idea, team and whether you think you and we might work well together.

You are:

  • A champion or someone who has a passionate commitment to address a social or faith issue, idea or concern
  • Someone who may have a successful track record (though this may not always be necessary)
  • An entrepreneur and able to make or seize opportunities to make things happen and succeed
  • Someone with a larger vision who may need help to make it a reality
  • Able to communicate and network with a range of audiences
  • From anywhere, any walk of life and any creed/culture/faith/gender.

We are:

  • Wanting to work constructively with people/organisations wanting to promote the Christian Faith and/or who work to alleviate poverty
  • Prepared to take risks
  • Ready to offer our support to emerging and pre-popular work
  • Wanting to work constructively and add value to share the process of change which the implementation of grant funding leads to for new and step-change organisations
  • Seeking to learn from our grant making so that we minimise risks and maximise the impact our limited funds and input can have and achieve with your help
  • Endeavouring not to be too bureaucratic or slow in our processes - we don't always succeed in this - 90% of applicants will know within one month if we are not going to support their application.

If there is no match in what we are looking for and what you are looking for, you may find more appropriate information and funding resources available elsewhere on the resources page.
